What makes the Pygora goat unique in the world of natural fibers?
* Two fleeces per year can be expected. A kid’s first haircut is at approximately 6 months old.
* It is common practice to take fleeces when individual animals are at their peak rather than all at once, like a herd of sheep.
* There is minimal to no “grease” in the fleece.
* Pygoras maintain their soft, lustrous fleece throughout their lifetime (+/- 15 years).
* Wethers are tremendous fleece producers. Their bodies are larger than does, yielding more fleece. Their fleece is just as fine and, no, it does not smell “bucky”.
* Words that describe pygora fleece on and off the animal: soft, lustrous, silky, light and airy, very warm, versatile, durable.
* Note: When sheared with scissors pygora fleece should be de-haired to remove the guard hairs (body coat) that is harvested along with the downy fleece.
